Public Comment Period: LLBO Draft Water Quality Standards

UPDATED 7-19-24

The Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe is seeking public comment on our Draft Water Quality Standards until 3pm on September 6, 2024. The 60-day comment period began on July 8th, 2024 and ends on September 6, 2024. The Tribe has extended the comment period to allow interested parties a greater opportunity to review and submit comments, suggestions, or concerns regarding the Band’s Draft Water Quality Standards.

These Draft Water Quality Standards were developed by the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe to provide the outline and standards for waters within the exterior boundaries of the Leech Lake Reservation. Water quality standards include criteria for various water uses (such as drinking water, fishing, gathering, cultural and recreational activities) and specify the maximum allowable levels of pollutants in water bodies. This process is supported by the Band’s Treatment as a State for 303(c) authorities under the federal Clean Water Act.

Anishinaabe Culture Skills Camp

The Anishinaabe Culture Skills Camp hosted by the Leech Lake Division of Resource Management is a gathering of mentors and youth who are interested in exploring the traditions and culture that are tied to the Ojibwe who call Leech Lake their home. This camp will introduce youth to methods of hunting White- tailed deer, Ruffed Grouse, Ducks, setting and cleaning nets, as well as, learning from Elders the importance of these activities as they relate to who we are as Anishinaabe. Food, guns, and camping supplies are all provided, but we encourage accepted applicants to bring their own if possible.
